‘Now for the NEEDS list.’ Mum moves to the other side of the page. ‘We are almost out of cooking oil, and …

‘And Honey Puffs!’ Little tears appear in the corners of Tessa’s eyes.

‘Put the essentials on the list, in rank order, Mum,’ says Stevie. ‘And then we could each put one thing at the bottom of the list as, well, as a treat for each of us, perhaps. After the essentials of course, and maybe sell … I mean swap them, for something we are prepared to give away? Like perhaps … umm … maybe you could ask for coffee beans?’
